All Your Twisted Secrets is a fantastic locked room mystery that feels like The Breakfast Club meets Saw, with a bit of Mean Girls thrown in. The story begins with Amber, a high school senior who loves to compose music. Her biggest dream is to go to a college with a great music program and go on to produce scores for movies. In order to attend a good college however, Amber will need scholarships, so when she gets an invite for a special dinner with the mayor for a potential scholarship, she is excited and nervous. However, when she arrives, it is only her and 5 other seniors and someone has locked them all in. Under one of the serving trays they discover a syringe, a note, and a bomb. The note explains that they have one hour to determine which of them will get the syringe of poison, or the bomb will go off, killing them all.
From here we meet all the characters through flashbacks over the last year. They are all connected far more than they first appeared to be and their histories with each other begin revealing secrets that none of them want told.
I love how this book looks at the relationships we form in high school and how far people are willing to go to realize their dreams. Each of the characters are very well developed and I loved seeing how they are in the flashbacks versus how they react when locked in a room with death looming over them.
I really love thrillers and mysteries and All Your Twisted Secrets really kept me on the edge of my seat the entire read. My brain kept trying to connect the dots as I read and figure out who did this and how they were all going to make it out of the room alive.
Thank you so much to The Fantastic Flying Book Club for having me on this tour, and thank you to HarperTeen for sending me a copy of this book! I absolutely recommend to anyone looking for a YA mystery thriller.
Synopsis: Welcome to dinner, and again, congratulations on being selected. Now you must do the selecting.
What do the queen bee, star athlete, valedictorian, stoner, loner, and music geek all have in common? They were all invited to a scholarship dinner, only to discover it’s a trap. Someone has locked them into a room with a bomb, a syringe filled with poison, and a note saying they have an hour to pick someone to kill … or else everyone dies.
Amber Prescott is determined to get her classmates and herself out of the room alive, but that might be easier said than done. No one knows how they’re all connected or who would want them dead. As they retrace the events over the past year that might have triggered their captor’s ultimatum, it becomes clear that everyone is hiding something. And with the clock ticking down, confusion turns into fear, and fear morphs into panic as they race to answer the biggest question: Who will they choose to die?
